James Prescod guilty of attempted armed robbery
He will serve at least 3.5 years in N.C. Prisons
ASHEVILLE, NC — Thursday, June 13, 2024, James Crownton Prescod, 33 of Asheville, pleaded guilty to felony Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm. As a result, Superior Court Judge Alan Thornburg sentenced Prescod to serve an active prison term 44-65 months in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Prescod was arrested by Asheville Police Department (APD) officers on November 19, 2023 after APD was dispatched to the Bartlett Arms apartment complex in Asheville in reference to a reported attempted robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a victim who said that an unidentified male within a unit at the complex pointed a firearm at him as he walked by and stated "give me your cell phone or I’ll kill you where you stand." The victim fled and called 911.
APD responded and made contact with Prescod at the reported apartment unit. Prescod agreed to open the door for officers and was detained and searched.
Officers determined that Prescod was the only person in the apartment. While searching Prescod, officers located a stolen firearm on his person.
Prescod had 206 days pre-trial jail credit at the time of entry of plea.
