Lynette Rivera to serve prison term after pleading guilty to Child Exploitation charges
She will register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim
ASHEVILLE, NC — Monday, September 16, 2024, Lynette Lydia Rivera, 31 of Asheville, pleaded guilty to felony First Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. As a result, visiting Superior Court Judge Greg Horne sentenced Rivera to serve an active prison term 44-113 months in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
On August 17, 2023 the Asheville Police Department opened an investigation into Rivera after the Buncombe County Department of Social Services (DSS) received a report concerning the suspected abuse and/or neglect of her two year old minor child. The reporter, a relative of the child who was serving as a temporary custodian as a result of another DSS investigation into Rivera, stated that the child had received a tablet computer from Rivera that contained explicit videos on it. Further investigation found that Rivera had recorded sexually explicit videos of herself on the tablet and that the videos captured Rivera handling the minor child so that the child would be placed in contact with Rivera’s exposed buttocks and anus.
In addition to service of the active prison term, Judge Horn ordered Rivera to register as a sex offender for a term of 30 years; Horn also issued a no contact order prohibiting Rivera from having contact with the minor child for the remainder of her life.
